The biggest fundraiser event for JAYF – the Open Gardens’ programme 2023 – started last Sunday, the 16th April 2023 at Oaklands in St. Peter, and continues over the spring and summer at various venues around Jersey.
For almost 50 years, JAYF’s Open Gardens’ programme has provided a wonderful opportunity for families and individuals to visit some of the most exquisite and beautiful private gardens in Jersey and all whilst helping to support a great charity.
Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship (JAYF) founded in 1961, provides a devoted service to young people between the ages of 18-25 who might otherwise be homeless in Jersey. JAYF offers safe and secure accommodation, holistic and person-centred quality support in a positive environment where young people are encouraged to work towards their own independence.
Chair of JAYF Gardens’ Committee, Silvia Temple, said: “JAYF makes a significant mark on the life of many of our young people in Jersey who find themselves experiencing homelessness. I am proud to be leading the fundraising efforts through the Gardens and Bridge Committee and, as always, am very grateful for the generosity of our sponsors who enable us to deliver this work.”
JAYF provides accommodation for up to 29 young people across 5 sites in and around St. Helier. Residents have access to a support worker and JAYF’s manager, Emma Roberts who not only supports young people with challenges they may be facing, but also act as a signpost and guide to other services and options they may need in order to address their situations.
